Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Make Ranks, a sole proprietorship (“we”, “us”). By ticking the agreement box at signup or by using the service, you accept these Terms. We record the time and version of your acceptance.

1. The service

Make Ranks is a web application that turns ranked data into animated countdown videos. Rendering happens on your own device; datasets, templates and account features are provided from our servers according to your plan.

System requirements

• The editor runs on desktop and laptop computers only (Windows or Mac), in a current version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. It does not work on mobile phones or tablets. Please check that your computer meets these requirements during the trial, before your first payment.
• Videos render on your own computer, so render time depends on your hardware, the video’s length, resolution, frame rate, motion smoothing and template. As a guide, on our reference computer (AMD Ryzen 9 3900 (12-core), 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060) a countdown video under 5 minutes long renders in about 2 minutes at 1080p. Slower computers take longer; render times are an estimate, not a guarantee.
• Exports usually render faster when you minimize the browser window while they run, because the editor then stops drawing its live preview. Keep the tab open and don’t let the computer sleep until the export has finished.

2. Accounts & trial

• You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials confidential.
• The 7-day trial requires a valid payment method and is limited to one trial per person — we verify this using your account, your device’s characteristics and, at checkout, your payment method and email. Trials include 5 watermarked exports in 1080p and any 15 of the trial’s topics: up to 50 from the topic library, the same number from each category. Starter includes up to 30, Basic up to 150 and Pro up to 1,000 different topics per billing month (opening a topic again in the same month does not count twice); topics marked Pro are included in Pro only. The library holds 1,000+ topics: Pro includes every one, plus 100+ new topics every month, which are marked Pro; Starter and Basic open topics not marked Pro. These limits keep the library from being copied in bulk.
• You may cancel at any time before the trial ends and will not be charged. If you do not cancel, the plan you selected begins automatically at the end of day 7.
• We may refuse, suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service or these Terms.

3. Plans, prices & changes

Available plans, prices and limits are those described on the Pricing page at the time of purchase. Plans are billed monthly or yearly; on yearly billing, export and topic limits still renew every month, on the monthly anniversary of your subscription. Checkout, billing, taxes and payment-related refunds are handled by our merchant of record, Polar; Polar’s buyer terms apply to the transaction. We may change prices or limits for the future with reasonable notice; your existing subscription keeps its price while it remains active.

4. Your content and exports

• Videos you export are yours, including for commercial use on your own channels and accounts.
• You upload to platforms yourself, at your own risk. You are responsible for having rights to any images, audio or other material you add to a project. Platforms apply their own copyright rules; any claim or strike arising from content you supplied is your responsibility, and we make no guarantee against platform enforcement.
• Datasets and templates we provide may be used inside your videos but may not be extracted, resold or republished as data.

5. Our property

The service — including the rendering engine, templates, site content and branding — is protected by copyright and other laws. You receive a personal, non-transferable licence to use it while subscribed. You may not copy, decompile, scrape, resell or make the service (or any part of its code, templates or datasets) available to third parties. See the IP & DMCA Policy for infringement reports.

6. Acceptable use

No unlawful content, no attempts to breach security or limits, no automated account creation, no interference with other users, and no use of the service to produce deceptive or infringing material. See also the Social Responsibility Policy.

7. Availability & changes to the service

We aim for high availability but the service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We may add, change or retire features; if a change materially reduces what you paid for, you may cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any prepaid, unused period.

8. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions platforms make about your uploads. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

9. Termination

You can cancel your subscription at any time, effective at the end of the paid period. We may terminate for breach of these Terms; where the breach is not abuse or unlawful conduct, we will refund any prepaid, unused period.

10. Disputes & changes to these Terms

If something goes wrong, please write to us first at support@makeranks.com; we will work with you to resolve it within 30 days. Nothing in these Terms limits the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live. When we change these Terms materially, we will ask you to re-accept the new version before continuing.
